For someone like me, who has spent his entire life in Central
Europe, Japan feels like another world entirely. My father, a
captain aboard ships bound for Japan in the 70s, used to
bring back treasures that seemed otherworldly to a young
boy – porcelain, toys, and snacks beyond imagination. Since
then, the dream of going to Japan and immersing myself in
its equally futuristic and traditional culture has never left
me. This duality, this paradox, is what keeps my fascination
for Japan alive. Time spent there feels never enough; there's
always more to explore, more to uncover. So I made it my
mission to focus on the people – wherever I encountered
warmth and opportunity, I raised my camera to capture
portraits that would etch themselves into my memory for
years to come.
