American Carnivals can be absolutely absurd. I created this series to tell a story of humor, sarcasm, criticism, tenderness and love at American carnivals. While all of the photographs shout 'America', a few images add a special flair of 'Texas' - the complicated, beautiful, ego-inflated, authentic and caricature-of-American-culture state I call home.
The series is sequenced to show a relationship between the photo and the one before and after it.
When I started editing for my submission I wasn't planning for any personal meaning. Over a few weeks agonizing over selection and sequencing, some feelings about America and Texas emerged in the work and solidified into this series. So whether or not the series moves forward, thank you for the opportunity to have yet another therapeutic experience with the amazing art of photography.
