Brunswick is a suburb of Melbourne. I’ve lived here for a decade. While it isn’t a pretty place is has its own unique, attractive, bohemia style of environment. Its buildings are a mix of its colonial origins, its light industrial past and its diverse commercial present which is in the form of scores of small businesses. The area is swathed in posters, stickers on poles, commissioned murals, graffiti tags, shop displays and signage. Sydney Road, the longest shopping strip in Australia, is its main throughfare which often looks like a theatre to me. Complete with numerous sets, and actors playing to their own personal scripts. Some of them tragedies, while others are comedies, but all of them their own mystery. My images are an attempt to capture something of that myriad of layers of visual energy.
