"Complex Coexistence" illustrates the relationship between humans and many semi-domesticated animals around the world, a relationship that has existed for thousands of years. This series explores nine different species of animals in nine locations around the world, each animal holding profound historical, religious, or cultural significance to its area. From the sacred wild deer of Nara, Japan's ancient capital, to the time-keeping roosters of Zaachila, Mexico, these candid moments offer insight into the shared spaces and lives of the cultures they coexist with. The animals are woven into the tapestry of beliefs and traditions that define their environments and local communities.
