Tourism is a major source of income for Sri Lanka, but it also threatens the local lifestyle and environment.
Initially, I perceived Sri Lanka as heavily dependent on its colonial heritage and questioned whether Sri Lankans were lazy. However, I realized this was far from the truth. Sri Lankans care deeply about their surroundings and respect nature. This is evident in their daily lives and the well-preserved archaeological sites and cultural heritage. The dedication and respect of the Sri Lankan people have enabled the preservation of the country’s historical treasures.
Our goal is to develop a system that protects the livelihoods, culture, and nature of local communities while benefiting from tourism. This system should ensure that tourism supports rather than undermines the local way of life and environment.
I envision a future where Sri Lanka's economic growth is balanced with the preservation of its unique beauty and cultural heritage. Through my photos, I hope to inspire viewers to share ideas and create sustainable solutions that respect both nature and tradition.
