No Renumeration for Placekeepers/social landscapes of Britain in the 1970s
The Britain I found in the 1970’s was caught somewhere between the past and the future. The character of the people had changed little since the hard days following the war and the prosperity that was to come in the ’90’s had yet to arrive.
I was always more interested in the commonplace, the everyday, rather than the extraordinary I saw in my work as a photojournalist. The focus is human behaviour; the crowds and in some cases the emptiness, solitude and topography of the area. The observer goes unnoticed, documenting moments which have become a record of change.
