Outside MY Windows (2006-2019. 2024 - on-going project)

- Finalist of Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012 ‘Outside My Windows’ is an ongoing photographic series begun in 2006, rooted in my childhood in a public housing estate, where my parents often restricted me from playing outdoors. Within those walls, the window became my only portal to the world beyond. From there, I observed the constant movement of people and the quiet dramas of daily life unfolding below. In this series, I focus on the scenes that play out around a single table-tennis table just outside my window. Through this fixed vantage point, everyday gestures and encounters become cinematic, turning a familiar corner of the estate into a stage for shifting narratives. The work explores the idea that creativity is never distant; it resides in what is immediately around us. By committing to one viewpoint—the desk beside my window — I investigate the possibilities of contemporary photography from a place of physical limitation: from concept and visual strategy, through shooting and production, to international dissemination, all anchored to a single, ordinary location.
