Introspection

The ubiquitous plastic wrap exhibits stress-induced birefringence, a phenomenon where applying mechanical stress causes the material to become optically anisotropic and display colored patterns when viewed between crossed polarizers. This is an exercise in letting go. Relinquishing control gives way to that complete freedom in which the unpredictable can manifest. Fundamentally indeterminate, the process by which I obtain these images is a form of therapy, a direct analysis of the fears, obsessions and anxieties accumulated beneath the suffocating skin of modern life.
