Da Shuhua
Project info

Da Shuhua is a traditional festival, performed during Chinese New Year in Nuanquan, Hebei Province in China. The local blacksmiths throw over 1000 degree Celcius molten iron against a cold stone wall to create a shower of sparks which looks like Shuhua (tree flower). This performance was originally invented over 300 years ago among poor blacksmiths who couldn’t afford fireworks for the New Year’s celebration. This dynamic and spectacular performance now attracts many tourists every year.
