Wandering the streets of Rajasthan cities and villages, I thought about my physical approach to strangers. I noticed women veil themselves in public. Could this offer them protection, in a religious sense of speaking. In a social and psychological way? To fence off certain communication? I thought about beauty. About how the veiled parts of ones presence emphasize the unveiled parts. What does it really mean to cover yourself in textiles? What makes me get passed the clothing and its meaning, to make contact? I photographically examined these matters.
