Windowpane Sketches
Project info

Windowpane Sketches began in 2012 during my first visit to Central Canada, in Waterloo, Ontario, where under fortuitous circumstances I came to photograph Mennonite families on a heritage steam train, which had just been restored for operation that year. Thereafter, I became increasingly captivated by the soulful results of photographing people through glass, and sensed parallels between my window shots to those of the portraits I paint, and felt I had found a new creative path with a connection to my work with canvas and pigments. My early studies in painting have, to a large extent, influenced what I photograph and how I choose to frame my subjects. This on-going window series is testimony to that connection.
