Genevine And Jennifer On Towne Avenue, Skid Row, Los Angeles
Project info

While driving through Skid Row this past Spring 2016, I spotted a woman standing by a line of tents on Towne Avenue, a very difficult and impoverished part of Skid Row. She was fixing her hair and gazing at her reflection in a hand mirror... I was so struck by the sight of her in this neighborhood that I mustered the courage to stop, park nearby, introduced myself and ask to photograph her. The photos in this series reflect my initial meeting with Jennifer and my chance meeting with her immediate neighbor, Genevine, my experience photographing them and their generosity and desire to share a piece of their lives with me.
