I began developing Elements in 2011 when I was shooting a portfolio of reflected architectural imagery entitled The City Reflections Project. In that work, my focus was on creating “paintings” from kaleidoscopic colors and patterns I saw in the windows of the downtowns of major cities.
In this body of work, abstract expressionism yields to a more graphic and hyper-realistic aspect of city reflections in which the architecture takes center stage. My subject is no longer behind me but in front of the camera. In both architectural series I discover that the parts can be greater than the whole.
