Epitaphs for the Living
Project info

In 1987 I began photographing people with HIV/AIDS and asked them to write their response to living with the disease under their image. The resulting photographs and stories were published in the first full-length documentary book on AIDS: "Epitaphs for the Living: Words and Images in the Time of AIDS." Photographs, negatives, press clippings, television coverage and correspondence during this project are collected in The Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University and available for researchers interested in the early responses to the AIDS Pandemic.
