Tales of Lamu - Chapter One

I had the great luck to find myself in Lamu Island -Kenya- during the marine turtles birth period. I still remember with such a great emotion me sitting on the beach and looking at those tiny little turtles getting ready to embrace a new world. Once they come into the new world they are alone. The powerful and dangerous Indian Ocean ahead, seagulls above. The marine turtles could die within few minutes or live more than 250 years just depending on fate, just depending on the flow’s will. Lamu Island’s kids are like the marine turtles. Most of time abandoned the day they come to life; no one there to protect and guide them. Orphans frequently raped, physically and, even worst, mentally. They are alone, they are just orphans. The luckiest ones have the chance to get hosted by Anidan Onlus center, a ONG that works in Lamu since 2002 to help as much as possible Lamu kids to grow peacefully in order to give new hopes and chances to youngest generations. Anidan gives them an opportunity to do well, smile, laugh, study, grow healthy and find a reason to life. However there’s still the other side of Lamu kids. Those kids don’t smile, grow too quickly and chase you with their scared eyes. This project is for them. Well, just by supporting Anidan we can offer an opportunity to them, too.
