Clay and Ash
Inspired by traditional elements of various tribes in Papua New Guinea, I intend to create a narrative that shows the dichotomy between the individual character and the need of community.
Earthy materials and human life come together in this series of portraits of men covered in clay and ash. By using these materials to cover themselves, their individual identity is taken away giving an opportunity to focus on the inner spirit and the relationship between them in a graphic way.
Clay and Ash is my personal abstraction and graphic interpretation of how humans interact with their piers; following the shapes that are sometimes found in nature. I feel that this brings humans and the land together in a unique and different way.
