In these photographs, I observe women- how they present themselves and how they are perceived in a public space. These images were made between 2009-2016 . Through fashion, body language and actions (whether waiting, walking, thinking or looking), women communicate vulnerability and purpose. The women in these images move about anonymously, often focused on their interior world, apart from others. Some of them are “flaneuses,” strolling and open to the possibilities that this implies. The urban locations they inhabit include mass-produced images of women, sometimes on kitsch objects, or advertisements or cheap art in flea markets and these pictures within pictures, which I include on my website, provide an interesting counterpoint.
