Dads shows fathers making their communities better by being involved with their children and families.

In 2001, I documented this transformative experience. When men assume their roles as fathers, this transformative experience leads them to connect to the community and to perform heroic works to make it a better and safer place for their children. The photographs show men (dads, surrogate fathers, and male role models) engaged with youth, their wives and partners, and other men to create better neighborhoods. The men photographed were from low and middle income communities and are involved in fathering programs and the fathering movement.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation funded this project.
