Flower$

Flower$ takes a rare look at the flower business. Shot at the San Francisco Flower Mart, one of only five wholesale flower markets in the United States, Flower$ presents its subject not as romantic expressions but as perishable commodities that support a major local industry. During weekly visits to the Mart, I made photographs that juxtapose the beauty of the "product," as vendors refer to the flowers, with the industrial environment of the Mart. In making these images, I seek to capture unexpected drama, humor, and poetry and to expand the tradition of botanical photography.
