Carantoñas de San Sebastian

“Las Carantoñas de San Sebastian” (Carantognas of Sain Sebastian) is a festivity that takes place every January the 20th at the small village of Acehuche in Spain. In which paganism and Christian tradition merge to honour the saint. Men from the village dress up as beasts with furs from goats or foxes and carry a brunch. They wait for the figure of the saint that is carried aroung the village and pay reverence. Carantoñas are accompanied by ther "Regaeras" that are women from the village that dress in a traditional dress and throw confetti at the saint and scorted by the "Tiraores", men from the village that fire their rifles to the sky at every corner when the retinue passes by.
