The Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles
The Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles are a fast growing order of cloistered nuns who have had four albums top the charts. Young women from around the world are opting for their traditional way of life. The nuns record their albums themselves, in their new chapel, in the quiet hills of Missouri where they farm, make vestments and spend their days in silence and prayer.
The Benedictines in Europe have traditionally been cloistered and contemplative. Mother Cecilia says this is about about handing down a lost dream, “we are in a sense reaching back through time and conserving that way of life for the future” she said “these women really want to be a part of it” she says. “It is 1500 years old, this Benedictine way of life, it has given the church thousands of saints.” These young women want to be in that number and also aspire to pass on that ideal.
