The memory has already entered your consciousness, but you have to discover it. It will arise in dreams, in the vigil, turning the pages of a book or around a corner. J.L. Borges, The memory of Shakespeare
Memories are our creations, perpetually remade and replaced in a constant state of flux. Every time we evoke a memory, it becomes unstable for a brief time during which it will be reassembled with new information and experiences before it will be stored again.
I am interested to approach this fleeting and malleable moment; I focus my work on this whisper of suspended materiality.
I gather different pieces of time, as the raw materials of which memories are made. Familiar photographs taken by anonymous photographers, letters, documents and my own pictures are brought together to be rewritten in a new image. Multiple layers are superimposed and the images overlay, multiply, lighten or darken with each other. Through this transformation process, different qualities of light, places, objects and time intertwine as new images arise.
