The Zone. Leipzig, Germany. 2006. Brought by a friend, I enter some abandoned factories and buildings. We spend hours walking through corridors and rooms, and more rooms that open to more corridors, more and more ruined places, worn by abandon. Tarkovski's Stalker comes to mind. Some form of past life was somehow still present amidst those ruins.
A few months later, that same friend brings me a box full of medium format negatives found in one of those buildings. Through restoration, a family's life emerged, and conjunction between those so different photographic registers began slowly to take form. My images taken in 2006 housed again the characters recorded sometime during the early 1950's.
My aknowledgement to Carlos Bosch, without whose help this work would never have seen light.
