Every portrait reflects a reality that contains a story. Viewers, however, will interpret the story in the light of their own experiences and values. As a result there is no one way or right way of seeing a portrait. It does not have to be pleasing or beautiful, but it should stir the emotions.
The central attraction of most portraits is found in the eyes which, it has been said, are the windows to the soul. We are drawn to the eyes because they can tell us much, but not all, about the person. The unknown adds mystery to a portrait; it is the viewer's task to complete the story that began with the photographer..
