Into liminality (working title)
After winning the Eurovision song contest held in Brighton in 1974, ABBA became a symbol of Sweden for many British people. Young, blond and reserved they became stars over night. In this work I want to explore how the characters in ABBA are represented today through people dressing up in the classical costumes and imitating not only their music but also their looks from the 70s.
”Liminality” is described in conection with ritual by the British anthropologist Victor Turner, as being a phase, a midpoint in transition. Betwixt and between. I wanted to capture the moments of transition, from the self to the acted personality, when the persons are in between. Not fully them self but not fully the character, or maybe both at the same time.
