A Little Big Christmas Celebration in Peru
This series was shot entirely In a small indigenous village, about an hour north of Cuzco, Peru, where the local preschool was celebrating Christmas. The last 20 minutes of our journey to the village were performed on foot because no roads traveled far enough into the mountains to reach this community. Urban organizations had pooled money to purchase Peruvian fruit cake, melting chocolate, helicopters for the boys and dolls for the girls, and were delivering them as an early holiday gift. Although the children and adults were baffled by my presence and New York origins, they encouraged me to preserve the moment with my camera. For hours, we danced, we sang, we played and we ate alongside everyone in the village for the joyous occasion.
