In spring 2011 my grandmother suddenly became very confused. I could never have dreamed that she would become demented. She was always so alert, stubborn and strong. One day she looked at me without really seeing me and gave me the name Jens. She was disappointed in me who no longer came to visit her. Instead it was always this Jens who was there helping her. I photographed her all the time trying to understand what was going on inside her head and it was also a way to handle my grief over losing her. This project became a book published by Journal in November 2013. These are some of the photographs from the book.
