"The complicit witness has been silent for decades, resigned to darkness and oblivion. The times it has been brought out to light has been to air it, to play what time has already taken away or to recall those times when everything was about to come, when beauty was the youth itself: Olga wearing her gala dress, wearing her youth in her sleeve, carrying it her eyes—now echoes veil the mirror where you looked at the dress, and its glass is darken.”
LUCÍA reflects on the canons of beauty, the passage of time, the cultural changes of Colombia and the use of the photographic archive. I rephotographed and intervened with jewels newspaper clippings and photos of an old album of my mother who was a beauty pageant in 1973, as a metaphor that retouches the past. Recent photographs focus on the vintage clothing, the old objects and the aging body.
