Where the Water Used to Be
Peachtree City, bedroom community to the world's busiest airport, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson, drained the man-made lake for dock repairs in the winter of 2014. A failing dam stagnated the project. This series of photographs shows how nature quickly reclaimed the dry land. Stumps from trees cleared for the lake came into view when the water receded. In the spring, the grasses grew tall to cover them and give the area a pastoral appearance. A thriving wetland ecosystem took the place of the man-made lake and electric powered boats. Water fowl, deer, frogs, and other creatures welcomed the cover and prosper in the middle of urban sprawl. All photos are taken by standing where water used to be..
