Force of Nature
The Force of Nature series presents elements of natural disasters that evoke sensations of beauty and chaos. Forms billow and expand to great height and dimension, eliciting both wonder and fear. Themes of chaos and control, inner turmoil and outer calm, love and loss, and tension and release are found throughout the series.
In process, Davis takes small, closely cropped images of her body and layers them in mosaic fashion over found photographs of natural disasters. The result is that of a photograph, which seemingly moves and transforms in the viewing process, instinctively appearing destructive at a distance and seductive up close. It is Davis’ way of showcasing a juxtaposition of elements that simultaneously expose and conceal, threaten and invite.
