“Hunter-New World” is one of my photographic projects since 2012.
Living in a city for over 30 years, I consider city streets, business districts and downtown etc. best reflecting the sense of modernity of the city. I am full of desire for the noisy, bustling and seductive metropolis. Whenever walking in the busy downtown with camera in my hand, I am extremely excited, with hunter-like eyes fixed on passing preys.
The reason why this series of photographs is named of “Hunter” is that I regard myself as a hunter, my camera as a weapon, and everything contained in my lens as preys. I often take the “weapon” around the streets, my hunting ground, for several hours to “hunt”. Discovery of desirable preys inspires me greatly. Eccentric people, for example, attract me deeply. I like to record them with camera and explore the story behind them through their face and action.
Photograph 6*6 is selected for its outstanding expression of the human figure and the gentle and tranquil visual impact, which is not as exaggerated as other photos. I choose wide-angle lens to shoot this most gentle and tranquil picture, leading it to a quiet outbreak. The adoption of wide-angle lens also strengthens my interaction with the subject so that I can be into him to get my work.
It has been 3 years since the “Hunter” project was set out, during which I have experienced the determination of self-breakthrough, project approval and the completion of my own city portrait. The “Hunter-New World” series presented here is the foundation of “Hunter”. I will utilize my knowledge to interpret “Hunter” in diversified ways. “Hunter” will keep ongoing and compose the grand project “Contemporary City” together with other series.
