Street Art Appetite

All pictures were shot in Galata neighbourhood of Istanbul between June 2016 and March 2017. Shooting pieces of street art may appear rather banal at first glance. It is not. We often see street art without looking at it. We mostly miss visiting properly the open galleries of street art displayed in our urban environment. The project consolidates bits of street art captured in a specific location into a single body of work. It invites the reader to explore purposefully the themes and the key message of the artistic journey. The art pieces presented evoke a variety of societal themes including love, war and technology. They converge to suggest that more art would drift us away from violence and superficiality, and hence would better our life. The project goes beyond documenting pieces of street art. It presents them in their social environment. The pictures frame street art and urban dwellers, visit and elaborate on their relationship in order to create a specific body of work. Last but not least, the project reports on a culturally vibrant neighbourhood of Istanbul. Traditional values are being challenged by alternative lifestyles. At the crossroads between Asia, Europe and the Middle East, this is where Turkey stands today.
