Pilgrimage at Lalibela.
Project info

Every year thousands of Ethiopian Orthodox Christian workshippers converge on the ancient town of Lalibela, home to centuries-old rock hewn churches, to celebrate Christmas mass, many of them walking for weeks or months to get there, while the more prosperous simply fly from Addis Ababa, returning home just as quickly. While there the hillsides fill with ad hoc accommodations, and itinerant preachers, while the tunnels and the churches to which they lead, swell with the faithful.
