These photographs were made during the summer of 2010 in communities in and around San Salvador, El Salvador. Most of the images are of families living in the cultural phenomenon "toma de tierra" or land grab communities. With shacks being built on abandoned areas of rural land in-between urban areas, families were relocating to these communities for several different reasons- displacement by natural disasters, escaping gang violence, or lack of employment and inability to pay rent.
