I am following this weeds since my arrival to Japan in 2006. The cycle from these plants, growing in closed areas under the highway, fascinated me for years.
In winter, dry, bleached skeletons hidden behind fences can be seen all along under the central highway. In spring, fresh and tender green will emerge and start blooming. At this season, randomly changing year by year, worker will appear and cut all the weeds down. Whenever the workers not appear, the plants will grow and spread their seeds again. Nevertheless, even after everything got cut down, in a few days span, some green will appear again and the cycle continuous.
As i drove by, this plants always reminded me on migration and homelessness, i imagined a photographic series of this weeds exhibited together with portraits of homeless or migrants. But somehow it felt too obvious, too simple. Finally, after looking at the pictures i took over the course of years, i felt that these pictures are evocative enough. With the help of titles they can lead you to a similar subject in a much more liberating way.
