House of Surprises

This ongoing body of work documents an annual twins festival, held in Twinsburg, OH; the same festival Mary Ellen Mark attended to developed her body of work, "Twins."

I was struck with how in most cases siblings would look exactly alike, but the dynamic between them, especially in a photograph, charged and heightens their individual singularity. As an outsider to the event, and a person who does not know what it's like to have a twin, I saw the slow unraveling and reformation of identity as I continued to document the people at the festival. The question I was left with was not, ‘What is it like to be a twin?’ but ‘What does it mean to be an individual?’
