BUTCH is an enivironmental Portrait series documenting the aesthetics of the butch identity in the queer mecca of San Francisco and surrounding area from 2012-2017. The portraits were shot during a time when queers were disappearing from the city and there were cries from the lesbian community that the butch identity was also disappearing. The series explores what butch means in the modern era and features women and gender queer individuals who don't conform to the strict codes of gender identity. For queers, the series celebrates the butch identity that never recieves the spotlight. And for heterosexuals, the series allows them to journey through the possibilities of identifying outside the gender binary. The series is 123 photographs in total.
