Filipino Mythology & Folklore (Pre-1521 Spanish Colonization) in Dance
What happens when a foreign imperialist power conquers one's country and replaces much of their traditions and beliefs with theirs? This series of photos represents some early Filipino folklore deities, shamans, and humans interpreted in dance. Long before the colonial Spanish occupation in 1521, the Philippines' native people had a very rich and vast set of traditions and folklore that relied closely on Mother Nature for all they needed. Stories and myths of creation and how man lived with the ancient gods are depicted in this dance narrative.
