The series of photographs La Casa en el Aire (The House in the Air) is inspired by the song of the same name, a favorite of the late Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This song was playing repeatedly on the radio during a tribute to the writer by the city of Barranquilla. That same day I was taking pictures of strategic locations in town, and when I came back home, I leafed through the first book that was at hand by the writer, "Twelve Pilgrim Tales". As I was reading, the atmosphere became more “Macondian”, and I retrieved the titles for each photograph. The stories in the book are themselves works of art, inspired by movies, newspaper articles and television scripts; basically, they are memories and dreams, some of which are reflected here.
This series was first shown in Miami during a talk on García Márquez dictated by writer Juan Carlos Botero, and one of them was part of an auction organized by the Foundation “Give to Colombia”.
