The Plastic Age is a series of five polaroids of classical plaster casts from the Mackintosh Museum wrapped in bubble wrap and caution tape during preparation for exhibition. The new context of the works shifts the viewer into a place of seeing the traditional forms with a new perspective and in so doing the forms become oddly more lifelike, less stiff and stale, in their synthetic shawls. This dynamic lends itself to a multitude of material analogies open to the viewer, with luck, encouraging them to consider the figurative lens with which one sees the old and the new, the priceless and the disposable, the crafted and the manufactured, the stiff and the flexible, the fragile and the protective, the nostalgic and the practical, and perhaps most poignantly, conflicting notions of permanence and it's value.
