Bashir is a village in the province of Kirkuk, the north of Iraq, has a strategic position because of is located in the path of the two large cities of Baghdad and Kirkuk, With a population of around ten thousand.
Pressure for an operation to retake Bashir village had grown in March after ISIS launched a chemical attack from there on the nearby town of Taza that killed at least three children.
The Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (Alabbas Firqa) freed this village during heavy clashes, after two years of occupation by ISIS elements
Bashir is recaptured by popular forces on 1 May 2016. In this operation about 200 people of ISIS were killed.
