Genius Loci, two germans in the land of the czars
last year I found out that the founder of the Russian City Yekaterinburg, Georg Wilhelm hening was born in Siegen, where I live.
Both regions have one essential thing in common: A history around steel. From digging and mining, to smelting and machine industries both regions till today are charcterised by their industries and their representing architectures.
Genius loci unites architectures from both cities in one project. The acompanying book illustrates the life of newlyy rediscovered Georg Wilhelm Henning, who founded Yekaterinburg 1723. Inn 2013, on the cities 290th anniversary Thomas Kellner presents his work in the Russian Urals, in the land of Czars and in the city where the last Czars lived.
