The Body I Live In
“The Body I Live In”, a photo essay that Ana Carolina Fernandes has developed by meeting, on a regular basis, a city center transvestite community, in Rio de Janeiro. This is a significant example of such an original work which was kept away from society’s cliché and limited approach towards this social group.
A photo documentary that breaks down barriers and that freely moves throughout magazine pages and art gallery walls. Most certainly, this very photograph no longer tolerates impervious delimitations artificially created. And that is very background theme of “The Body I Live In”; a theme which is resourcefully treated by giving voice and image to those women-boys.
