Greek Homeless Football National Team
Project info

The camera follows the traces of the members of the Greek national homeless football team from their weekly training sessions at a football ground in central Athens to the Homeless World Cup trials, tribulations and triumphs in Glasgow in summer 2016, Oslo in summer 2018 and then on to the visits to refugee camps around Greece to play football, to share the joys of the beautiful game with refugee children as well as their parents. The project underlines the tremendous power of football to transform lives. In this case, to transform the lives of people who are homeless, living in extreme poverty and yet, through their participation to the Greek national homeless football team activities they are empowered. Not only they become socially active and involved, improving their lives, but indeed they turn into community leaders, leading by example.
