Starting Transcontinental Race No5
Founded by Mike Hall, the Transcontinental Race (TCR) is a self supported bicycle race across the European continent. Riders must be self supported, do their own routing and cannot accept outside help. The ethos of the race is of self reliance, adventure and a strong philosophy of camaraderie and mutual support. For the last 3 editions, Geraardsbergen (Belgium) has been the starting line of an adventure that has participants cycling distances of 250 km daily, for a total of 4000 km, taking about 14 days. This year's edition was marked by the death (also in an ultra cycling race) of founder Mike Hall. Many volunteers, often TCR alumni, banded together to make this year's race a possibility.
