Moving Forward, Standing Still – Queens edition
Project info

The Queens edition pays homage to my home borough in New York City. Queens is the most diverse urban area in the world and growing up in such a locale allowed me to become comfortable hearing the multiple languages and dialects spoken around me. The offerings of ethnic food filled my curiosity about other cultures. Having friends whose families hailed from halfway around the world was the norm. It was natural for me to travel and explore the world where my neighbors originated. Accordingly, this series includes images from the neighborhoods of Astoria, Corona, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, and Flushing. These particular neighborhoods are the most culturally diverse in the world, and it is this intersection of cultures that is the focus of the Queens project. Therefore, this project is about going full circle: seeing the world, re-examining my immediate home environment, and seeing the world within the neighborhoods of Queens. While addressing the multiplicity of a particular place, it is my aim to thoroughly explore and challenge common perceptions of that landscape.
