A stroll in Kashgar
In terms of physical appearance and culture, the province of Xinjiang provides a slow transition from the East to the Central. As a Pakistani who lives in China, I was curious to explore a sort of exoticism that results from a juxtaposition of political secularity and religiosity. When I arrived in Xinjiang, I found myself in the mix of Chinese and Pakistani and Central Asian cultures. Every element in this new space made me feel as much as home as it alienated me. Shot on 35mm film, these images present just a few of those elements.
