Old Slovenian tradition especially in rural environment so called "Koline". In old times (19th and first half of 20th century) meat was precious and very expensive nutrition. Because of that and because families were big with lots of kids, people bred pigs for meat through whole year and during the winter arround Christmas they had so called "Koline" where they got a lot of meat for family for the next Year and of course to celebrate Christmas and New Year. This tradition was kept till today. Meat is more healthier and fresh. Especially because people know what their animals were eating and how and where meat was stored.
