This photography project focuses on community centres around Glasgow, Scotland; more precisely on Langside and Patrick Burgh Hall.
The first thing noticeable through the photographs is the deliberate absence of any human presence, contrasting with the role and involvement of community centres.
By taking photographs while the buildings were empty I wanted to suggest human presence and history, provoking a backwash effect by emphasising it; using black and white film, a certain feeling of melancholia and nostalgia emerges from the shots, as if the walls and floors absorbed the people's personal stories throughout the years.
It is as if the repetition of items, furniture stacked on top of another mimics the individuals taking part in the activities involving these same items.
I am aiming to keep on my research and extend it to more community centres around Glasgow.
I got to meet and discuss with lovely members of staff whom kindly made me visit the premises and told me about the history of the buildings and of Glasgow in general.
