"Blow up the north. Once our particular part of the North gets into you, life isn't a foul mess anymore... Come up and you'll be a new man from than on. I wouldn't give it up for all the wine, women and song in the world - and I was never opposed to any of the great Trilogy." Ernest Hemingway in a letter to his friend Bill Horne in 1920 about Northern Michigan and the Petoskey region. Hemingway's 'particular part of the North' got into me in 2007 when I moved my family from the Detroit metro area to the shores of Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan. In 2015 I decided to make it my life's work to capture the very life that Hemingway described in his letter. Pond Hockey. Summer evenings sipping whiskey on the porch. Campfires. Sailing. Family reunions. Music festivals in the forest. That is the very purpose of my photography. To celebrate the ingenuity, passion, work-effort and uniqueness of this region and its people.
